Pumice is a volcanic rock that consists of highly vesicular rough textured volcanic glass, which may or may not contain crystals. It is typically light colored.
Pumice is widely used to make lightweight concrete or insulative low-density cinder blocks. When used as an additive for cement, a fine-grained version of pumice called pozzolan is mixed with lime to form a light-weight, smooth, plaster-like concrete. It is also used as an abrasive, especially in polishes, pencil erasers, cosmetic exfoliates, and the production of stone-washed jeans. Finely ground pumice is added to some toothpastes and heavy-duty hand cleaners as a mild abrasive. Pumice is also used as a growing substrate for growing horticultural crops. Some brands of chinchilla dust bath are made of powdered pumice.
So, how to make powdered pumice? The grinding mills are necessary.
HGM series grinding mill is a new type machine to grind Pumice stone into super thin Powder. The final Powder size can be from 5micron to 47micron as per 97% passing rate.
HGM series grinding mill is mainly applied to non-inflammable, non-explosive and brittle materials with Mohs hardness scale under seven, such as calcite, chalk, limestone, dolomite, carbon black, bentonite, kaolin, talc, mica, magnesite, illite, pyrophyllite , roseite, sea-foam, attapulgite , rectorite, diatomite, barite, gypsum, alunite, graphite, fluorite, rock phosphate, kalium ore, pumice etc. totally more than 100 kinds of materials.
Finished powder products are in the 325meshs -3000meshs, and yield can be up to 0.5-12 tons per hour. There are five types of Shanghai CLIRIK HGM series ultra-fine grinding mills, they are HGM80, HGM90, HGM100, HGM100A and HGM125.
Working principle of HGM series grinding mill:
After crushed by hammer crusher, the large Pumice stone become small ones and are sent to storage hopper by elevator, edge of then evenly sent to the upper distribution plate of the turnplate by vibrating feeder and sloping feeding pipe.
When the grinding mill is at work, all the grinding rollers are rolling in the ring, and the materials are driven to the edge of the turnplate by the centrifugal force and fall down into the grinding chambers where the materials are repeatedly pressed, crushed and grinded by the rollers. The high-pressure air blower constantly inhales air within the grinding mill and, in turn, the air flow with crushed materials are brought to the classifier whose high-speed impeller will screen the airflow: the unqualified particle size will fall and return to the mill for being reground while the qualified particle size mixed with air will go into the cyclone powder collector. Most of the qualified powders will fall an exit from the discharging valve at the bottom; a small proportion of the fine powders, with airflow, moves to the dust cleaner, and clings to the surface of the filter bags. At the same time, the fine powders clinging to the surface fall down by the sudden vibration of the filter bags, which is caused by the instantly ejected high-pressure gas controlled by the pulse valve. The materials from the above two lots are sent by the conveyor at the bottom to get finished powders packed. In addition, filtered clean air will be emitted from the air outlet of muffler in the end.
